Bio

Born William Michael Broad in Stanmore, United Kingdom, Billy Idol is an internationally acclaimed British singer and songwriter. He has won several awards throughout his career, including a Grammy for Best Video From a Film, the Classic Rock and Roll Honor for the Comeback of the Year, and the ASCAP Pop Music Award for the Most Performed Song. Idol has sold over 40 million albums worldwide.

His moniker was inspired by his former chemistry teacher, who referred to him as ‘idle’ on one of his school reports, and years later, he decided to adapt and adopt it as his stage name. He attended Sussex University to pursue a degree in English but dropped out a year later after concluding higher education was not for him. His music career began in the late 1970s as the lead singer of Generation X signed to Chrysalis Records. He relocated to New York City in 1981 and started his solo career. His second album ‘Rebel Yell’ released in 1983, catapulted him into international stardom.
